The 12 modules of the French and Spanish courses are designed to be delivered over the 4 years of Key Stage 2. Therefore, the course is designed for 1 module per term or per 12 weeks. Therefore, 3 modules per academic year is ideal. However, the modules are flexible to suit the pace of each cohort and ability level.
Each module consists of 12 weekly lessons and there are assessments for at least 2 of the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in French or Spanish at the end of each module. Assessments are differentiated to cater for all ability levels and are as fun as any other lesson activity, ensuring all pupils achieve with languages. If all 12 modules are completed, pupils may achieve a level of French or Spanish that is equivalent to current secondary school levels at the start of Year 8.
Although teachers may start their class where they feel is most appropriate in the course, most will benefit from starting from Module 1, even if their students have previously learned aspects of the language. Since the course is designed to work through step-by-step, with lessons and modules building on previous lessons and modules, it is recommended that you start from the first module to ensure solid develop of all 4 skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in the language. However, students can easily be fast-tracked through the early modules if they have sufficient prior knowledge of the language.

However, if a teacher or parent is a language specialist and wants to provide additional material for a topic, then the recommendation is that the additional language is relevant to the topic and extends the language structures being taught and should not create confusion for learners.
